Learn : Marathon Story

Running Background:

I decided to run a marathon because my friends said this marathon is really fun, and they were right.

Training:

I trained for 6 months. I added half a mile a week until I got up to a 15 mile run, and I took off Sundays.

In terms of training advice, I got some bad nutrition advice about carb loading, and it caused some problems for me.

Race Day:

The 2009 Utah Valley Marathon was better than expected. The race was very organized for only being a 2nd year event. They had lots of sponsors supporting them, and there was lots of food like pizza and chocolate milk at the finish.

Recovery:

No recovery problems for me. I made sure to get some protein.

Running Gear Recommendations:

Mizuno Running Shoes
The shoes I wore.
Search »

Energy Gel
I use Hammer Gel.
Search »

Running Socks
I like Polyester socks.

Tips/Words of Encouragement:

This was a great race!

Plans to Run Another:

It was a blast, and I plan on running every year.

For my next marathon, I'll train a little more, and try for a Boston Marathon qualifier.
