Learn : Marathon Story  

Running Background:

I consider myself an advanced runner and I primarily run for competition. I decided to run this particular marathon because I did it as a vacation getaway and I needed a reason to train.

Training:

I trained for 3 months following a Jack Daniels modified training program. During my training I averaged 50 miles per week.

Race Day:

The 2008 Big Sur was better than expected. My goal was to run 3:30 on a difficult course. I started out running 7:45's at a comfortable pace. At about mile 11 or 12 there is a significant hill that I was planning on taking easy, a beautiful women pulled up with me and got on her shoulder and we ran the rest of the race together, sharing pace and running 7:30's or better.

Recovery:

My recovery was pretty rough. I made sure I didn't start running too early.

Tips/Words of Encouragement:

Start training early and don't come back too quickly after your race.

Plans to Run Another:

I'm planning to continue to run marathons.
