Learn : Half Marathon Story

Running Background:

marathon photoI consider myself an intermediate runner and I primarily run for hobby. I decided to run a half marathon because I prefer the half to the full marathon -- it's just a nice long run.

Training:

I trained for 3 months, and I was coached by Echelon Coaching. During my training I averaged 15 miles per week.

Race Day:

The race is VERY well run and though there is not a large crowd they were friendly and helpful. They did put your name on your bib which personalized the experience. It was not windy however I understand the course can be much tougher when the usual winds are present. These people run a really great race. I am not sure I would be as happy doing the full marathon as it is a second lap of the half marathon course and that might be tough. Overall an excellent event.

Recovery:

I didn't have any problems with my recovery. I stretched, elevated my legs, and moved around a bit.

Running Gear Recommendations:

Garmin Forerunner 305
I love it!

Tips/Words of Encouragement:

Prepare, get help, hire a coach or join a team, after you have done a few of these they are just fun. Do not worry so much about time goals just have a good time.

Plans to Run Another:

I'm planning to continue to run half marathons because it's the perfect distance, you can come home and cut the grass after the race. I will do three or four half marathons this year but only one full marathon.

I dropped 10 pounds for this race, I'm going to try to drop another ten for the next.
