Erik Nieuwenboom from Rotterdam, ZH The Netherlands (Male)
Age on race day: 35 2008 Marató Barcelona - Barcelona, Spain
This was my 8th marathon and I finished in 3:35:29.
Running Background:
I consider myself an intermediate runner and I primarily run as a hobby. I decided to run a marathon because I try to run 1 marathon a year.
Training:
I didn't follow a specific training program. I trained for 4 months, and I averaged 25 miles per week.
The best training advice I would share with others is that resting days are good for you!
Barcelona is a very nice city. The course comes a long a lot of great sites that the city is known for. I enjoyed being in a marathon that is not yet crowded like London, New York or Berlin but does have the feel of a big city marathon. I combined this race with a nice weekend in the city of Barcelona.
A good tip: rent a bike the days before to take of the stress on your legs while city seeing.
Recovery:
My recovery wasn't bad. Rest, rest, rest...
Tips/Words of Encouragement:
Enjoy the company of the other runners.
Plans to Run Another:
I'm planning to continue to run marathons.
For my next marathon, I'll do some longer runs, and I won't run a 15K race a week before like I did this year.
