Learn : Marathon Story  

Running Background:

marathon photoI consider myself an intermediate runner. I decided to run this particular marathon because I ran the 2007 Chicago Marathon and didn't have to do too much training to run this race. I was on vacation and thought I would schedule the race at the end of my trip.

Training:

I trained for 2 months following Hal Higdon's marathon training program. They have schedules put together for two marathons that are somewhat close 2, 4, 6 and 8 weeks in between. I averaged 40 miles per week during my training.

Race Day:

The 2007 Honolulu Marathon was what I expected. I thought this race was nice despite the fact that I started the run with sopping wet running shoes. That is something that can't be controlled. It poured while waiting for the buses, it poured while we waited for the start of the race, and then it poured halfway through the race....but it did stop and actually it wasn't too bad. Thankfully the sun didn't pop out until I was showered and headed for the beach.

Recovery:

I didn't have any problems with my recovery. I sat on a plane for about 10 hours getting home the evening of the race....but, while we were waiting for our plane to leave Hawaii, we were called to the ticket booth and asked if we would mind sitting in the exit row, with a seat between us....MIND...you have got to be kidding!!!

Tips/Words of Encouragement:

It is a nice race, I would like to do it again someday. I understand they had a problem with their timing system, but things like that happen.

I'm planning to continue to run marathons.
