Learn : Half Marathon Story

Running Background:

I consider myself an intermediate runner and I primarily run for fitness. I decided to run a half marathon for many reasons -- weight management, hobby, stress relief, to make friends, get to know people at work, to name a few.

Training:

I trained for 3 months following Hal Higdon's Novice Training Program. During my training I averaged 15 miles per week.

The best advice I received was to start slow even if you have to walk/run. It's alright to stop a moment at a light. The worst advice I received was that you suck if you don't stick to a rigid training program.

Race Day:

The 2007 Las Vegas Half Marathon was better than expected. I thought the course was difficult, but the organization of the race was good. The crowd support during the race was pretty good too.

Recovery:

My recovery wasn't bad. I made sure to get plenty of rest after the race.

Tips/Words of Encouragement:

Why not.

Plans to Run Another:

I plan to run another half marathon because it was an amazing accomplishment. I only benefited from the experience and made healthier life choices, eating, drinking water, sticking to an active routine in the weeks and months leading up to the race.
