Kim K from Lincoln, NE (Female)
Occupation: Mother of three
Age on race day: 38 2007 Nike Women's Marathon - San Francisco, CA
This was my 3rd half marathon and I finished in 2:59:14.
Running Background:
I consider myself an intermediate runner and I primarily run for hobby. I signed up for this marathon because of the awards for finishing -- Nike Dri-fit T-shirt and a Tiffany necklace.
Training:
I didn't follow a training program for this race. In fact, I didn't really train for it -- I only averaged 10 miles per week during the month before the race.
Race Day:
The 2007 Nike Women's Marathon was what I expected. This was an amazing race which I would recommend to any woman to experience. Not only was Joan Benoit Samuelson a speaker at the expo, but she ran the very same race. The weather was perfect, the crowd was so supportive every step of the way and there were so many extras to make the race enjoyable, such as an oxygen bar. The scenery throughout the race was breathtaking -- views of the Golden Gate bridge, Fisherman's Wharf, the Presidio, and the beach made me forget I was running at all. I doubt the few men who participated enjoyed the Tiffany necklace or the pink T-shirt, however.
Recovery:
My recovery wasn't too bad. Stretching and some time on the beach with my feet in the ocean, helped considerably.
Running for fun is so much better than any other reason. If it becomes work and is stressful, is it really worth it?
Plans to Run Another:
I'm planning to continue to run half marathons because I love the sense of accomplishment. Not many people can run 13.1 miles.
For my next half marathon, I'll train more and try to improve my time. I also would love to have the iPod nano with the shoe pod, I got to test it at the expo and WOW!
