Learn : Ultramarathon Story

Running Background:

I consider myself an advanced runner and I primarily run for fitness. I decided to run an ultramarathon because it was a new adventure. It turned out to be a lot of fun.

Training:

I trained for 3 months, and I averaged 60 miles per week. I didn't follow a specific training program.

Race Day:

The 2007 Lean Horse 50 Mile Ultramarathon was better than expected. This was my first ultramarathon and I think it was a good place to start doing ultras. The aid stations were well stocked and the people extremely helpful. It was a great experience and the Mickelson Trail is a great place to run. The gravel road to and from the Mickelson Trail was quite hilly but the elevation was mostly negative on the way back.

Recovery:

My recovery was pretty rough. I recommend doing a fast walk or short run/walk within the first day or two after the race.

Tips/Words of Encouragement:

The person who attempts to do what they think is beyond their ability will accomplish great things in their lifetime.

Plans to Run Another:

I plan to continue to run ultramarathons.
