Learn : Half Marathon Story  

Running Background:

I consider myself an intermediate runner and I primarily run for fitness. I decided to run this half marathon because it was near the mountains, and I wanted to see the scenery.

Training:

I didn't follow a specific training plan for this race. I just maintained my fitness after running a marathon several weeks before this race. I averaged about 15 miles per week leading up to this race.

Race Day:

The 2007 Lander Half Marathon was better than expected. I had heard that it is a really hilly course, and that it is very hard. So, I was expecting the worst. Come to find out, it wasn't that bad. There were a lot of hills, but for every uphill, there was a nice flat stretch or a downhill. The miles were marked very well. The people manning the water stations were very nice. It was a small, but worthwhile race. And, the views of the mountains were great!

Recovery:

I didn't have any problems with my recovery. I just drank some Gatorade and walked around after the race. I felt fine the next day.

Tips/Words of Encouragement:

I would encourage you to look at the elevation chart for the race, and drive the course beforehand so you know what to expect. It will help you be more prepared and relaxed on race day.

Plans to Run Another:

I'm planning to run another half marathon because I want to see if I can beat my time.

This is what always goes through my mind during races, "You should have trained by running more uphills..." I'm going to try to stick to that for my next hilly race.
