Learn : Marathon Story

Running Background:

I consider myself an intermediate runner and I primarily run for fitness. I decided to run a marathon because it is an accomplishment! I had to have one under my belt before I leave this great thing called life!

Training:

I didn't follow a specific training plan. Eight miles was my long run, and I actually trained for the half instead of the full.

The best advice for anything is "Mind over matter." Our body's will go well beyond what we THINK it's capable of doing! Challenge your body and mind every once in awhile. I always use the mentality that we've been put on earth to either survive or not. If I can't cover 26.2 miles in a days time then how fit am I to survive? Think about it!

Race Day:

The 2005 Quad Cities Marathon was exactly what I expected. I ran the first half comfortably and finished with a run/walk technique to the end.

Recovery:

My recovery was pretty rough. I didn't do anything and that was my problem.

Tips/Words of Encouragement:

We are animals -- would you survive in the wild? 26.2 miles is not that far.

Plans to Run Another:

I'm planning to run another marathon because it's a great feeling at the end!

For my next marathon, my goal will be to run the entire thing without 5 minute water breaks! I might actually finish with a respectable time!
